How To Get A Job in UX
Careers in UX design are a hot item these days but, if you’re new to the field, you’ll need to know where to begin. Join Amelia Abreau of UX Night School and our own Mary Blalock as they present an overview of User Experience, how it fits in the overall tech industry, and information on the different job opportunities available to pursue.

- What to expect working on a user experience team
Amelia Abreu is a Portland-based User Experience consultant and founder of UX Night School, a training and development company providing fun, hands-on user advocacy and design skills for working professionals. She has worked with engineering and design teams at Nike, Mozilla, Microsoft Research and Intel, as well as agencies, startups and cultural organizations. She holds graduate degrees in Human Computer Interaction and Information Studies from the University of Washington and the University of Texas-Austin. Her writing has appeared in The New Inquiry, Motherboard, and Model View Culture, and she has been featured as a commentator on the BBC and Wired.
Mary Blalock is a career coach and creative recruiter with 8+ years of experience in the industry. Currently a senior recruiter at 52 Limited, she’s worked with companies like Nike, adidas, Microsoft, Amazon, REI and many more. She received her coaching certificate from Vera University, where she studied evidence-based theories on how to help people create lasting behavior change. She’s also a co-founder of Ladies’ Night, a quarterly happy hour for women, non-binary, and trans-women in the digital space with events at W+K, Simple, Instrument, and more around the Portland area.
